Blodgett Peak summit photo

I'm interested to know how you managed to get to take the photo from the summit of Blodgett Peak which is posted on the SP Blodgett Peak page. It's in the NF, but the City's Trails and Open Space group's website says that there is some kind of "wildlife preservation" area there, and there is "no access" to the peak. Is this true? Are there barriers which keep the public from hiking beyond the city Open Area onto the upper slopes of the peak?

Thanks,

Patrick L. Lilly

P.S.: I see from your SP profile that you also have some familiarity with Mt. Rosa, one of my favorite local peaks. Cool! I've climbed to its summit half a dozen times, usually running.

Re: Blodgett Peak summit photo

Sorry this took so long to answer. I just noticed it sitting down there. :-)

As I explained in the SP page for Blodgett, the city park only covers the Open Space portion of the route to the summit. The rest of the way is controlled by the US Forest Service, but there appears to not be any real maintenance done to the trails in that area (other than a few folks who go out on the weekends and help out).

I see on the city's page at http://www.springsgov.com/Page.asp?NavID=2730 that the Open Space is a wildlife habitat for peregrine falcons, but I didn't see any discussion about limited access to the Open Space or beyond. There were no signs or barriers at all on the dividing line, and the only difference I could see is that the city's trail system in the Open Space seems to be better maintained.
