Makes sense. I suppose the Iceberg is behind the darkened ridge to the left?

Good question- this is the first time I'd been to this part of the Sierra, so I don't know. All the weird volcanic formations & peaks around the area are an interesting break from the predominant granite seen in the 'High' Sierra.

I rumaged on the net after finding the Dardanelles Cone topozone and reckon that Bob Burd is probably a good source on this one. I did find a picture that shows Dardanelles Butte up close-looks consistent with your pix.

Three Chimneys

Diggler, these are known as the "Three Chimneys". They are accessable from Eagle Meadows but its quite a hike.
