View to Santa Elena from Emory

Emory Peak is the highest of the Chisos Mountains, and the highest point in Big Bend National Park, so it offers great views. This view looks to the southwest. The gap in the distant ridge is the spectacular Santa Elena Canyon, which admittedly doesn't look so spectacular at this distance. The ridges in front are part of the Chisos Mountains, the most popular part of the park for hiking and climbing. Most of the rest of the terrain is Chihuahuan Desert. January 2010.
