Potocka zijavka

Potocka zijavka

On the altitude of 1675 m, in the limestone rocks of Olševa / Uschowa, there is the big, famous Potok cave. It's one of the most important paleolithic sites of Europe, one of rare proved dwellings of early Homo Sapiens on such a high altitude. People lived there 35.000 years ago and very rich archaeological findings are leading towards two lines of interpretation. The place was either a hunting post or it was (also) a sanctuary. As the normal ascent on Olševa passes by the cave (over the rocks on the right a short ferrata section continues), Potočka zijavka is adding a lot to the interestingness of Olševa mountain.
