Broadfruit Mariposa (Calochortus nitidus)

Broadfruit Mariposa (Calochortus nitidus)

Broadfruit mariposa is a regionally endemic species to the canyon grasslands and the adjacent prairies of west central Idaho. It has been virtually eliminated from its prairie habitat by agricultural development and hangs on in the steep, rocky canyons where its existence is threatened by a number of factors, primarily weed invasion. Photo is from Center Ridge, Idaho. July 2005

Neat!

Informative and interesting plant description and a great picture. It will give me something to look for if I am in the area.
