Overview
Veliki Vran is a mountain to ski. Though the area is known for high snows, not many locals practice tour skiing, so it could be a lonely tour. Long slopes without much vegetation promise easy and enjoyable skiing of about 2600 ft (850 m) height from the top to the entrance door of the hotel Hajducke vrleti below in the valley Dugo polje. Veliki Vran is the highest of several summits in Vran Planina, which extends N-S west to Dugo polje and opposite of Cvrsnica mountain on the east side of Dugo polje. Getting There
There is a bit more than 20 km road from Jablanica on the Neretva river to Risovac, partly unpaved, and it takes about 45 minutes to get to the hotel Hajducke vrleti at Blidinje lake (Blidinje jezero) or to the mountain hut in Risovac.
Red Tape
No special permits are required except visa for some countries to enter the state. No mine fields in this area.
When To Climb
From the late spring to the autumn the walking tour of 2 and a half hours to reach the top is undemanding. We made it in rain, strong wind and fog. Next time I come with skis.

Camping
Camping is free. In the hotel at Blidinje lake you are going to pay 35 KM (17 EUR) a night.
