Approach

Same approach to the Aar-Bivouac as described under the Main page "How to get there".

Additional information: you can traverse the frozen Grimsel-Lake for shortening the way! CAREFUL: In late April the ice might not be thick enough anymore! On the higher Finsteraar-Glacier might be many melting crevasse-bridges you can't see! Use a rope !!!

Route Description

Take the same route as described under "S-face couloir and SE-ridge (Normal)" . You can easily ascend the Strahlegg-Glacier to the beginning of the couloir with ski or snow-shoes. The couloir is probably impossible to ascend with ski! If you're an experienced steep-slope skier or boarder, you might want to carry your board / skis with you to get the ultimate kick skiing down that couloir... If not, make the depot on the bottom of the couloir underneath the rocks of the west-side of the couloir. The max. incline is 48°.

CAUTION: The avalanche conditions have to be absolutely safe! The snow/neve musn't be soft in the early morning! If you're not sure, stay away from the couloir and choose the rocks on the west side of the couloir to ascend!
The couloir has no run-out! Make sure you're concentrated and not too tired or worn out when you start skiing down! If you fall, you will be lost !
