Approach
See the "Getting There" section of the main page for directions to the trailhead.
Route Description
The first 4.3 miles are just a hike up the PCT with nice viewpoints of the summit along the way. Once you reach the 4.3 mile mark and the trail turns slightly northeast along the shoulder of Cowhorn Mountain, watch for 2 small cairns - one on either side of the trail. About 30 yards past these, there is another larger cairn on the right side of the trail and a faint climbers path leading to the right. Take this trail and it ambles up the west shoulder of the mountain and turns from forest into rock. The remaining trail to the summit is .4 miles long and scrambles up some yellow rock to a red cinder ridge. Walk the ridge to the summit block and scramble up the back side to a small summit.
Takes about 2 hours to the summit. Total length is 4.7 miles from trailhead to summit and elevation gain of 1900 feet.
Essential Gear
None needed but no water along the way.
