Lake Mountain as seen from...

Lake Mountain as seen from Monument Peak to the northwest on August 24, 2001. Visible in this picture are the near-vertical North Face, the southeast crag of Lake (Pk. 8165), and the slabby but feasible west slopes. On my "first" descent, I found a rappel sling on the slabby but steeper northwest shoulder, but since I did not have a rope, I had to go back up and around. There could be some pleasant class 4 and low class 5 climbing on this shoulder. My ascent route followed an enjoyable slabby dry streambed/gully/cut just right of the northwest shoulder. My "second" descent came down where I went up then cut over to the Lake-Monument escarpment once below the slabs of the northwest shoulder.
