Mt. Darwin is the leftmost of the background peaks, with Mt. Mendel immediately to its right. Photo taken from the NW at Alpine Col, with an unknown named lake below. On the north side of the col we dropped down to Goethe Lake.

Nice Pic

Nice Pic! I went over into Darwin Canyon via Lamark Col several years ago. The view was very similar. Is Alpine Col north of Lamark Col? (We found some very tasty, big trout, in the last lake in the Canyon). I'd love to go back someday.

Re: Nice Pic

Thanks! Yes, this is north of Lamarck Col. I'd love to do that route as well, but I don't get down to the Sierras very often, and there's lots of territory to explore! :-)

We went up over Alpine Col on a trip that started at South Lake (if I remember correctly), then hiked over Bishop Pass, down through Dusy Basin to the Muir Trail, over Muir Pass, down Evolution Basin, up and over Alpine Col, then down to North Lake. Nice trip with lots of great photo ops with the gorgeous lakes. BUT, we didn't climb anything unfortunately.
