Re: intense proportions

Yer it's pretty amazing. What i had planned to do this year was take a series of photo's of it to watch how it changed (with the heat wave) but changes in conditions did have me in the area much and the couple of times i was in the area it was way to cloudy to get any shots.

trick of the eye

No really it's very safe, my partner is on a ridge that drops off just behind the point he is standing at and there are a good few hundred metre of SPACE between him and the face. As the title says just a trick of the eye, if you do not know the area.

But there is a route the "hanging glacier" route that runs up to the starting from the bottom right of the picture then cutting up left. It's graded AD- and defined as "on snow and ice with some steep serac pitches" which i think must be the understatement of the certury. first climbed in 1969 in aug first winter jan 76.

I think it is safe to say not many people do it and more than likely none last season. I have not done it and it is NNNNNOOOTTT on my tick list.
