Overview
Views from Jones Knob
Jones Knob is the first side trip off the second section of the Bartram Trail. The summit is easily reached following the blue blazes for 0.3 miles from the Bartram trail junction. Views from the top are limited to 180 degrees looking west into the valley below and at Whiterock Mountain to the north. The true summit has cluttered views from the small trees covered in moss. I couldn't find an official bench mark on the large flat mountain top that I would guess is about a quarter an acre large.
Getting There
The shortest way, and only trail, to Jones Knob is via a short blue blazed spur trail just a half mile from the Jones Gap parking area. To get to Jones Gap from 441 in Franklin, North Carolina take U.S. 64/N.C. 28/Highlands Road south for 11 miles. Cross the Cullasaja River by taking a right onto Goldmine Road/1679. Follow Goldmine Road/1679 for 0.7 miles, and then turn left on Dendy Orchard Road/1678. There should be a church here on your right, followed shortly by a cemetary atop a hill on your left. After 1.5 miles on Dendy Orchard Road/1678 a huge white X is painted on the road just before the pavement ends. Deuce Drive will then shortly be on your left. Keep truckin down Dendy Orchard/1678 until you reach a small dirt road on your right named 4522. Road 4522 should be about 2.5 miles from Goldmine Road/1678. Once on 4522, take the steep winding road for 1.8 miles until it comes to an end at Jones Gap(4,360 feet above sea level).

Follow the yellow blazes of the Bartram Trail for just over a tenth of a mile to a sign directing you off the yellow blazes and onto the blue blazes for another 0.3 miles to Jones Knob.
