Overview
Winters are relatively mild in this region, with lows only very rarely dropping into the single digits, but we occasionally get cold snaps that freeze waterfalls and wet cliffs sufficiently for climbing. Whiteoak Canyon has six suitable waterfalls; many cliffs, including one excellent one for climbing (it is close to and visible from the third waterfall as one hikes downstream); and numerous smaller cascades that make good places for beginners to train. The longer climbs can reach 80' in vertical gain.
This page collects some photos of some of these routes. The real story of this page is the pictures, which show the frozen falls and other climbable ice areas. As I have no experience with technical ice climbing, I will not pretend to know what the climb ratings are or how to tell when they are in condition. This page is here to show you possibilities; if you're an experienced ice climber, YOU will best know how to prepare.
