Re: "Cave"Definitely no trees, well above timberline. Not sure about any bolders. I doubt it, the rock near the summit of Matterhorn was all pretty smooth and rounded as you can see from this picture. Just bring lots of rope, you'll figure something out :-)

Re: "Cave"Back in 1990, two friends and I rappelled down into this cave. It's about 20 feet to the bottom. It's a cigar-shaped chamber about 30+ feet long, 6 feet high with a sandy floor. Aside from a small patch of snow below the entrance, there were no Bigfoot skeletons nor buried treasure. The rangers in Enterprise didn't even know of anyone who had been down in that cave and appreciated our venture. I also took detailed compass and distance bearings from the pass north of Matterhorn, between it and the unnamed peak between Matterhorn and Sac to be able to find it subsequent times. I had heard about this "sinkhole" years before in high school and enjoyed finally solving this curiosity.

Re: "Cave"Local legends say that after the infamous enterprise bank robery, the criminals fled into the wallowa mountains. Supposedly, they exited the mountains in cournicopia without the money. Legends say that one of the robbers admited on his death bed that they had thrown the mnoney into a "never ending hole" near matterhorn.
People have thought for years the money was down there, guess you proved them wrong. Congratulations!
