Hammered by wind...

I included this shot—we're at the base of Divide Mountain proper, which is directly out of the frame on the left—because (I like the desolate mood and) it illustrates that even though this part of GNP gets a lot of snow (although not nearly as much on this eastern edge as the Continental Divide and points west), strong wind is such a constant that in many places no snow can accumulate. This portion of the Rocky Mountain Front is one of the windiest areas in the U.S. (neighboring Waterton Lakes N.P. is officially the windiest location in Canada)—it's worst in winter; the area gets hammered!
