A little background...

The week previous I was up in the Dinkey Lakes Wilderness scouting out the area for an upcoming backpacking trip with my wife. Having never been to the area before, I just planned to hike around and check out all the lakes. Very pretty area!
Dinkey Creek

I had driven to the Willow Meadow Trailhead The description of the road was "dirt/rock." I wasn't quite sure what the rock part meant, but soon enough I found out. I would give this route off road vehicle status. Not for Honda Civics! The Three Sisters looked like a fun climb to come back to too, however I opted not to tempt fate on that road again with my car.

Further research revealed the Cliff Lake Trailhead for access to the Dinkey Lakes Wilderness. I wasn't up a long approach hike to the Three Sisters so I got the ideal for Eagle Peak from SP member SJD trip report.

Great morning.

Pretty leisurely start, on the road by 8:00 and to the Cliff Lake Trailhead by 10:00. It was a pretty glorious morning up there.
Courtright Reservoir

The route was entirely cross country. A pretty simple traverse up the ridge from the parking lot.

Higher and higher up on the ridge the view towards the backcountry started to open up. However, I took note that the first thunder boom was at 11:00.

Northeast Ridge approach

Above 9,400ft route finding was straight forward. With the peak in sight it was a nice stroll up the ridge.

Up to the summit I go and of course on queue roll in the clouds. Needless to say it was a cold and windy boulder scramble to the top. - My camera died around this time as well. I forgot to charge the batteries. The rest of the pictures are just taken from my phone, with pretty poor quality.
Summit clouded upThe view!

Its a small world.

I summit after in a little less than 3 hours after leaving my car. As far as I can tell from reading the summit register, I'm the first up this season. Funny thing... I'm reading the last entry in the register and it is from long time old family friends. They had gone up last August. SP member SJS trip report says this peak is not visited too often from the lack of entries. I would agree with that, at max two entries per year.
Eagle Peak Summit

Well that was fun

On my way down, I took a little detour to check out some weird rock formations towards the top.

Once I got below the clouds I had lunch and it was quick trip back to the car.
