Description

The Graukogel (2492 metres above sea level) is a fairly exposed peak that rises right above the resort and spa Badgastein (Austria/Salzburger Land/Pongau). It is technically and also strategically easy to reach (there is even a chairlift - the Graukogelbahnen - from just outside and slightly above Badgastein to nearly 2000 metres heighth), and offers marvelous views over a wonderfully remote and untouched alpine landscape. My personal tip as to a "round trip " over the summit would be: From the top station of the Graukogelbahnen (which is divided in two sections), follow the path to the Hüttenkogel (2211 metres), which already offers a magnificent view (see photos). Then take the direct path Hüttenkogel-Graukogel which follows pretty much the ridge; there's a slight descent to the point where it meets the path coming from the Graukogel Bergstation, then follow the very well marked trail straight up to the summit. From the summit, follow the ridge in SE direction (no path, a bit of scrambling is required, but nothing serious) to the pass named Palfnerscharte. From the Palfnerscharte, follow the path down to the beautiful and beautifully situated mountain lake named Palfnersee, then continue descending until more or less 1900 metres. At crossroads, turn to the right and follow the path back to the Graukogelbahnen Bergstation. All this is very beautiful landscapewise!

I am adding a set of photos I took on an exceptionally beautiful day beginning of October this year (2009) - if any of you - und hier wende ich mich ganz besonders an die Freunde aus Deutschland und Österreich! - have any photos of the Graukogel or the surroundings, please feel free to attach these!

Cheers and many greetings,

Eric

Is there...

...any special reason that you don't create a mountain page of Graukogel? It's still missing on SummitPost.
Cheers!

Re: Beautiful Album.....

Thanks a lot TyeDyeTwins, I'm very glad you enjoyed it! That was a very special day I had last October! As for the happy trails...just today I did another one, veeery wintry, again in the Badgastein-Mallnitz area. Just now I'm sitting in the little railway station of Mallnitz waiting for the train back to Salzburg, and this evening I'm going to start uploading today's "harvest". Keep an eye open! :-)
Many greetings to you from
"Maurice"

Parents refers to a larger category under which an object falls. For example, theAconcagua mountain page has the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits' asparents and is a parent itself to many routes, photos, and Trip Reports.
