Overview
Peak 5907Peak 5907 is located in Wyoming's Big Horn Basin near the southern end of the Oregon Basin oilfield. It is a very nice hike to do in any season, as its relatively low elevation leaves it mostly free of snow for much of the year. The western side of the summit drops steeply off into the neighboring valley and Dry Creek, while the eastern side slopes gently down to the surrounding terrain.
Summit views to the west include some of the biggest peaks in the Absarokas, including Jojo Mountain and Francs Peak. The entire length of the Big Horn Range can be seen to the east, including Black Tooth, Mount Woolsey, and Cloud Peak. Wildlife in the area includes rabbits, deer, antelope, hawks, and rattlesnakes.

Summit CairnDrive from Cody towards Greybull on Highway 14-16-20 and turn right on Highway 120 to Meeteetse just past the airport. Drive for just over 16.5 miles and look for a dirt road that turns off of the highway to the left. While this road is rough, 4WD shouldn't be needed unless there is a lot of snow; watch for the unburied pipelines that parallel the road in some places. Drive for about 3.5 miles to the place where there is an intersection and park somewhere around here. Peak 5907 is the triangular mountain to the north, and is located to the right of the break in the rim of hills that make up the southern boundary of Oregon Basin.
From here, cross the creek bed on the road to the right and hike to the base of the peak. Scramble up the Class 2 ridge to the summit, where there is a sizable cairn marking the highpoint. A round trip to the top of Peak 5907 is about 1.5 miles with 500 feet of elevation gain.

There is really no red tape to speak of, as this peak is on public land. Watch out for the gas lines that litter this area in addition to other unfortunate blights on the landscape. As always in sagebrush country, watch out for rattlesnakes during the warmer months!
