Looking west from the basin to the north of Mount Mahler (August 29, 2004). That ridge spans all the way from Mount Mahler (left) to Point 11,960 (right). It looks like an easy stroll once you've attained the ridge.

Andy-Hmm-

I would have gone for the tundra to gain the ridge rather than deal with the messy north face. Was it too far out of the way?

Re: Andy-Hmm-

Yeah, I suppose that would have been preferable. In hindsight, the best thing to do would be to ascend Mahler via the east ridge and then loop around Mahler's west ridge to grab point 11,960 on the way back down to the car from point 11,960's northern slope.

Alternatively, you could tack this loop (but do it in reverse) to the loop I did earlier this summer with Tepee, Richthofen and Static. That would be a really long day, but what a spectacular day it would be!

I'm glad you liked my page and trip report. This is one of my favorite areas.
