The small Sesvenna glacier seen from Fuorcla Sesvenna (2819m)

I'm looking south from Fuorcla Sesvenna, a high alpine saddle on the Italian-Swiss border. I've just hiked up from the Sesvenna hut on the italian side, but it's just as easy to come from Switzerland. From left to right, the peaks are Muntpitschen (3162m), Foratrida (3136m) and Piz Sesvenna (3204m). My main goal for the day is to climb Piz Sesvenna. From where I'm standing, the normal route first crosses the glacier to the saddle between Foratrida and Sesvenna, and then ascends its east ridge (UIAA grade II). Two years earlier I already visited the Sesvenna hut. I asked the warden about climbing Piz Sesvenna by myself. He said that it would be fine to cross the glacier alone, but I would need crampons. And I hadn't packed those. Two years later I was in the area again, and this time I brought them along. 24 Aug 2014.
