Awesome

You installed a camera over the crater center? That is very cool. Are the pics online?

Re: Awesome

I was helping out with the field work for the project but it's being headed up by a colleague. The pics are mainly for science use at the moment and so probably won't be come out in a publication for a year or so. You can only actually see the centre of the lake as there appears to be a crust overlaying the sides, no idea how long that will remain intact for though.

Unthinkably terrifying

Visions of human sacrifices come to mind....Not a good thought but a most incredible photograph

Re: Unthinkably terrifying

Thanks, was pretty lucky there wasn't too much gas obscuring the view. Normally it's a lot more hazy.

Base Jump !

Either this is the one, or another where some people based jumped it from a helicopter.

Nevertheless, I go along with the "terrifying" by any approach. Though still amazingly cool that such places exist. Awesome indeed.

Re: Base Jump !

Could well have been Mutnovsky in Russia (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqCNs-NRasc) If you jumped into this there's no way you'ld be coming out again.
