Some bushwhacking
Late scramble up to El Chivo (2,785 m / 9,134 ft.) by late afternoon. Daniella and I got to the summit just before sunset.m Clouds rolled in an amazing way.
We hung out at the top for a while. Nice afternoon trip. Got back to the Mirador with the last sun rays.

21 K run from home to the crater
This is one of the advantages of living near a crater. I got to run 21 K from home to the crater rim.
Beautiful day!. I saw the whole crater and caldera today!. No Rottweiler attack today, but I still needed to keep an eye on those stray doggies on the road side.

Overnight in El Crater
Took a bus 40 minutes away from home and set up my tent inside the crater. Very peaceful and quiet night. It rained all night long, though.
My favorite place to clear my mind and thoughts. Love the solitude there!
Got back home completelly wet but happy :).

Pululahua and El Chivo
Hiked and scramble with Rob (HOL). Despite arriving in Quito from sea level in the morning, Rob and I hiked up and down pretty fast.
A warm afternoon, we got to Cerro El Chivo (2,785 m / 9,134 ft) completely sweaty.

21 K run to the crater and a Rottweiler attack.
Left home at 6:45 am and ran to Pululahua crater rim. It took me 1:45 hours to get there. I’ll try to run earlier next time in order to avoid the mufflers and the air pollution.
Just as I was getting to the rim, a huge Rottweiler scaped from “Templo del Sol” museum and attacked me. The dog opened his snout and got my right hand's thumb (click here to see the piture).
I was at the dog’s mercy, against the fence. Luckily somebody came from the other side of the fence and handed me a tree branch. I defended myself with it and fought back till I made him run away.
Got to the Park control and reported the incident. They told me it’s not the first time this happens. I filled out a demand against the museum. Hope it won’t happened again. This time I was lucky!
Nice view of the crater, though :).

Overnight inside the crater.
Set up my tent inside the crater, just wanted to get away from the city, which actually is just 30 minutes away by bus.
I spent a great quiet night in the crater. Found a snake, a scorpion and maybe a wild animal scatered my food by the ground at night. But I was able to relax better than I normally do at home.
Climbed up to Cerro El Chivo (2,785 m / 9,134 ft) next morning. It was cloudy and a bit rainy. Climbed up to Mirador de Ventanillas again and headed back home in the afternoon.
A relaxing weekend for me. :)

Nice day trip
After visiting Mital del Mundo, I got on the bus and then walked the half an hour from the road to the mirador. Walked down the crater, a slippery sandy trail. I then went up El Chivo. Started walking out the crater on the road behind El Chivo, then got a ride back to Quito. Sunny day, good views of the crater with some clouds coming in as I left. Nice day trip from Quito.

Route Climbed: Cerro El Chivo.
Climbed with Deysi (Guatemala). We actually walked down to the crater basin from Mirador de Ventanillas and climbed up to El Chivo's summit (2,785 m / 9,134 ft).
She made me run up to the top. We made it in just 10 minutes from the trailhead... crazy!. Finally we spent an hour up there catching our breath and drying up our sweaty clothes.
Got back to Quito by late afternoon.

Climbed with Andreea (ROM). We hiked by the trail up to the crater of Pondoña where there's a thick bamboo forest. We had to bushwhack in order to reach the summit (2,989 m / 9,804 ft).
Stunning views of the whole Pululahua caldera from the northern summit. Got back down to the base of the caldera and scrambled up to Cerro El Chivo right away.
A nice short scramble up to Cerro El Chivo. It took us 30 minutes to reach the summit (2,785 m / 9,134 ft) from the trailhead. Very enjoyable scramble.
