Top of Panama
Long hike through the night for sunrise on top of Panama

Main route - Boquete
Just a long walk uphill on this route. Still fun. We had been battling rain on previous days so getting this done before we had to leave was good. Beautiful area.

Normal route from Boquete
Long but not difficult route with so many annoying jeeps...Great view from top, except the garbage produced by german and asian tourist:-(

Great sunrise, rough descent
Beautiful view for sunrise. Takes four hours from the trailhead to the summit if you're moving at a good clip. Fun little scramble to the very top or you can choose to bypass it. Descend is brutal uneven mud/scree/gravel.
It took about 6 hours up and 4 hours down, really enjoyed it even though it was too cloudy to really see both oceans from the top.

By bike and by hike
Started the day on David, got an early bus to Boquete. Spent an hour so looking around town for a bike rental. Found a deal at Mamallena's, $15 for the day. I pedaled out of town at 8am. I paid $5 at the park gate, 4km later I found a place off trail to stash the bike. After a couple small naps and fighting the altitude, I eventually made the top. I got back to my bike as dusk approached. My pace certainly increased but it was still a difficult steep descent and I was riding the brakes hard. By the time I got to the paved road it was dark and a light rain had begun. It was exhilarating to gain such high speeds and dodge the locals who were walking up the road in the dark.

Beautiful Baru
Mamallena Hostel in Boquette had a daily midnight shuttle to the trailhead for $5 and let climbers use their facilities and storage free of charge on summit day - much appreciated. Midnight was a bit too early to start for me, however, and I arrived at the radio antennas well before sunrise in the freezing cold. The caretaker, Jaime, was extremely friendly and invited me and later the other climbers into his hut for warm tea and a rest before we summited for a spectacular sunrise. He also recommended that I hike down the other side to Volcán, which I am very glad to say I did. Much more interesting hike, although it is initially very steep. *Definitely not the ONLY place in the world where you can see the Altantic and Pacific though (Volcán Irazu in Costa Rica)*

Traverse
Climbed with my daughter Tatiana from the west (from Volcan) and descended into Boquete to the east, traversing the mountain in about 11 hours. The west is much, much nicer, but going down the road into Boquete was welcome for the descent.

Spectacular
Great views north to the Atlantic, but lots of rain toward the Pacific. Never been above the clouds like that.

from Boquete
Not very interesting route, but the (brief) sunrise at the top is worth it. Plus, just another physical challenge, if you don't mind the abuse on your knees. About 4.5hrs up, 11hrs-ish total including waiting about 1.5hrs for the sunrise and taking pictures.

From Boquette
Fun climb. Would recommend if you are in the area. Nothing major really other than the gorgeous views on summit while the sun was dawning

Clouds
Basically a long rocky jeep trail until a little scramble at the top. Completely socked in at the top during sunrise. The view is a gamble the nice workout is a guarantee. 9hrs CTC

Via Boquete
A long, LONG uphill slog but well worth the effort because we got to see the Atlantic and Pacific oceans at the same time.

Almost Completed CA High Points
I had a blast getting some adventure in on Volcán Barú after a week in Bocas. I highly recommend to climb this peak from the town of Volcán (not Boquete) as the path via Volcán is a great trail (albiet littered), with far fewer people and better scenery. This was my 7th North American High Point. Great times!

Panama's
We split our ascent into two days.
After getting a late (4:30pm) start we hiked into the night and set up camp at about 9km (there's no established camping area at this point, it's just a flat spot on the shoulder of the "road"). The next morning, we set out at 5:30 and made the summit by 7:30. Visibility was great and we were treated with 360-degree views.
I definitely recommend getting to the top early in the day. Several hours after we summited, the entire upper-mountain was covered by clouds.

We took a taxi from Boquete at 4am to the trailhead and started the climb at 4.30 am, hoping to reach the summit before the clouds rolled in. No such luck with the clouds, but it was a great hike nonetheless. Easy to find the route to the top, and I liked the distance markings every kilometre.
Climbed with my gf took us about 7hrs to the summit we saw the pacific coast going up but the clouds passed over us so we could not see the Atlantic side at the summit. It was rainy but overall was really nice.
Cerro Punta route is recomended, is a really nice trip with a huge vegetation and rock climbings. Aprox 6 hours by this route is required to reach the summit. From the top is cleary to see Atlantic and Pacific Ocean at the same time. AMAZING!!!
