Canaleta (gully) route : North face
Climbed from the plateau located at the feet of Acotango, Capurata and Guallatiri, after having climbed Acotango the day before. It took me 6 hours to climb the very long canaleta and the last slopes that leads to the summit. Before you can find snow, big and unstable rocks + sand make it a quite tiring and not funny at all climb. Under the rocky summit that stands on a vast snow field, heavy sulfur fumaroles are propelled high in the air and make it difficult to breathe while climbing the summit rocks. The log book was very thin : 3 ascents in 2011, 3 in 2010 and very few the other years. From the summit, wonderful wiews over Surire, Atacama's desert, Lauca and Sajama National parks. 2 hours to go down to my camp. As I initialy came from the bolivian side of Acotango, I did not have entry authorisation from chilean customs nor authorisation from Difrol. Anyway, the border (Tambo Quemado) seemed too far away to be spotted by customs or police.
