Not many summit views like this!  Sucess!

This is a great short hike or climb, if you're out in Wendover or passing through the area on I-80! The main route up the back side is a quick blast and the harder SE 'couloir' from the front is a lot of fun, too.

Volcano Peak Attempt

Great climb, very fun. I turned back 300 feet from the top because a rain storm with thunder and lightning came rolling in. I'll re-attempt another day soon.

Quick bonus peak

Hit this on the way home after Graham. Short, sweet and fun, and the arch is very cool. It's an hour round trip, and the TH access is quick. There's a pretty clear use trail most of the way up.

Volcano  Sucess!

Like others have said, Volcano is a great peak. The geology of this peak and the whole area is fascinating to me.

Wow!  Sucess!

This peak looks impossible but wasn't bad at all. What a fun area! Lots of interesting stuff around and beautiful views. We started the day with Tetzlaff, then did 5278, Volcano, and 5006, and finished the day with a buffet in Wendover. To do 5278, we circled around to the west side and then hiked up a gravelly slope to the north ridge. We hit the saddle just north of the peak and then scrambled to the top along the ridge.

Volcano Peak  Sucess!

Awesome little hike. I went up the NW gully that is described on this page. Great route. I did this peak first thing in the morning and spent the rest of the day exploring other areas in the Silver Island Mountains. I did Rishel and Tetzlaff later in the day. Also made an attempt on peak 5278 before getting cliffed out just short of the top. Awesome area.

There was an arch!  Sucess!

I'm really surprised utahguy didn't mention the arch. It was exciting. This was a really fun scramble. I would definitely do this one again! Good spot for rockhounding, too. (If you're a total dweeb, that is.*) *GUILTY

KC Versus The Volcano  Sucess!

I LOVED THIS MOUNTAIN!!! It was gorgeous, It was craggy. It was a blast. The views were stunning. Do this! It snowed on us while we were on top, kind of cool. Coming up from the northwest gully we couldn't tell which was the taller, the right or left peak. I took a fourth class crack from the gully to the top right peak. I guessed wrong, but really fun climbing. If you have an extra two hours stop and do this.

Kicked to the curb

Failure!

Neglected to read the web-page prior and tried to approach from the South. Started in the Silver Mountains parking area (1st one). Nice hike up a steep ATV road until it terminated around 5200 feet and left me with a class 4/5 climb. Way outside my skill level; declared victory, went back to the casino, ate a comp'ed steak lunch....

Total distance rount trip to failure point and Parking area 3.5 miles.

NW route  Sucess!

Very fun and easy scramble to astoundingly good summit views in 360 degrees. I love this range.

Northwest Route  Sucess!

Outstanding 360 degree views. A short, steep, exposed at times, rewarding climb to the summit.

Awesome!  Sucess!

An awesome area that not many people visit. Fun area to explore and crazy rock formations to find.

Steep Gully  Sucess!

Reached summit by hiking from the south, and then climbed straight up a very steep gully with lots of loose rock and rock ledges to overcome. Kicked off several small rockfalls on the way up. Weather was hot and sunny. Distance was only 3.5 miles, but took 3.75 hours to climb. Views are impressive for this small peak.

Northwest slope  Sucess!

Rugged, fun, interesting rock formations(arches, spires, pockets), with some great views. Short and sweet. 2 hours roundtrip. A great warmup for a bigger hike. Of course, no other souls around.
