So. Many. Mosquitoes  Sucess!

Fastest bushwhack ascent ever, trying to keep away from the swarming devil bugs. Not a particularly enjoyable climb until hitting the ridge where the views opened up.

off trail adventure  Sucess!

Started from Hot Springs Campground with Dude (black lab) and hiked along the road to Barnhardi cabin. Got bored of the road hike and spotted a moderately steep assent to the plateau. Set off trail west of the cabin along a west tending slope (through the thick sage brush) to the top of a small creek, followed the contour north around the head of the creek, went straight up to a groove of mountain mahogany trees, then north northeast to a dry drainage, and finally due north to the plateau about 1.5 miles from the summit. Hiked cross country along the plateau edge, passed the head of Degarmo Canyon and directly up to the summit. On the way back scrambled straight down the mountain to the jeep track and back to the truck. Great adventure!

Beautiful  Sucess!

Beautiful oasis in the middle of Hell, oops, I mean South East Oregon. Needless to say I bagged this one after Pueblo, Beatys, and Blue. So, needless to say to greenery was a refreshing change. Long road hike into the mountain, but worth it.

Warm early autumn day  Sucess!

My wife Linda, our canine Rudi, and I parked just before the last stream crossing before the Skyline Trail/Guano Creek junction on Barnhardy Road. We traversed through thick sagebrush to the second draw north of the summit and hiked straight up there, then traversed the ridge to the summit. We descended the same draw but took a more direct route from there to the Barnhardy Road and followed it back to the vehicle.

Lots of snow still  Sucess!

Second time up on hart mountain this year, first time up to the summit of warner peak. Quite a bit of snow on mountain still, and fairly windy. Parked at Garibaldi cabin and took direct route to summit.

East slopes  Sucess!

Picked this one off on my way to California. Drove to the saddle just east of the summit and hiked from there. Beautiful day and enjoyable but short hike.

Easy hike  Sucess!

Drove to base of east face on 'Skyline Drive'. Took 1 hour 30 minutes to reach summit. Ascended 1st gulley on right (N), but descended next gulley to N which was way easier. Climbed with Kyle and Rico (10 years old).

Cold in May

Hiked from Hot Springs up to the crest in May 2003. I didn't summit, mainly because I didn't know where the main summit was. Quite cold. I slept out and woke up at four in the morning with three inches of snow on my bag. The hot springs were a godsend!

Route Climbed: from Hot Springs campground Date Climbed: June 14, 2005  Sucess!

I drove down from Portland overnight and did this early in the morning. Very neat area with lots of wildlife. It took about four and a half hours round trip. I was nearly eaten alive by mosquitos. The only break I got from them was on the windy summit, where I was treated to some nice views of the surrounding area. Aftre this one, I drove to the Granite Mountain TH and got some much needed sleep.

6 hours RT, 4 up and 2 down. Mud was the big slow down but once I finally got on the mountain itself, it was a nice cross country ramble. Great views but I didn't linger long due to the threatening (think lightning) weather.
