Re: Wow...Thanks Tomek, yes, I also just love the alpine tundra basins of High Uintas for this airborne sort of feeling. The timberline trees are the only thing to give your eye a scale marker, and so the valleys look even wider than they really are (although they aren't small by any stretch anyway ... this tundra plain in Blacks Fork is about 6 km across). Perhaps my fav picture of Uinta's huge basins is this underrated SP shot:

Re: above sea level?like 3,200-3,400 m (11,000 ft give or take). There are occasional boulderfields and swampy areas, but mostly it just rolling tundra, very easy to go crosscountry in any direction
