Parked on Hwy 89 and started hiking up the trail around 10. Quickly got into patches of snow and just aimed for the path of least resistance. Steep slopes and elevation had us sucking air. Got up to the snow-free summit area a bit after 12. Took pictures and ate lunch a little below the summit out of the wind. Gorgeous sunshine and warm temps the whole day. Snow was just melted enough to make it easy going on the way down, not so soft that we were postholing thankfully. Didn't need snowshoes. I used micro spikes and poles with snow baskets. Helped a lot with my speed up the mountain. Got a little off our path when we hit a clear road and took it the wrong way. We were able to hit 89 and walk parallel back to our parking spot. Just under 4 miles. Didn't see any other hikers or cars in the area. Nice and short day hike!
It had just snowed so there was tons of powder. Fun snowshoe straight up. Great views of Freel, Desolation, and Tahoe.

My wife and I snowshoed to the top. Windy day.
Could not access Tallac, so went to Phipps. Got mixed up on the cross country vs trail route and realized didn't have enough time, so went to Rubicon. Streets at top of Rubicon subdivision were iced over and my car started skidding so gave up on that and went to Waterhouse. Waterhouse saved the day - got an OGUL summit, went up from Luther Pass, well marked trail up to the top, nice views. Trip report is HERE.
A quick hike up through the trees.
Climbed this peak as part of a traverse from Carson Pass to Luther pass. Took about 8.5 hours.
A great day of skiing with Paul and Dan.
Great place to ski.
snowshoed up deep powder from Luther Pass after breaking trail partway 2 days earlier with Pat
Lots of fun turns from both Waterhouse and Powderhouse over the past few years. Great tree skiing when avy risks are elevated!
Dayhiked on snowshoes from Luther pass, ran into a few skiiers and splitboarders on the way up. The area seems to receive a lot of ski traffic.
Quick evening summit to catch the sunset.
Pics are here.
Climbed the steep and brushy southeast slopes above Scotts Lake
fun steep tree skiing! felt comfy enough to go solo with helmet.
Left from the trail to Big Meadow along Highway 89. The weather was sunny and clear with nice views from the top.
Great little winter outing in the Tahoe area.
Followed the ridge from Carson Pass over Red Lake, Stevens, and Waterhouse. Enjoyable half-day outing.
An enjoyable outing with Matthew tagging Red Lake & Stephens as well, almost all on snowshoes. It got wet and sloppy going up and over Waterhouse. Trip Report
Snow and cloud cover ruined the view, but still a fun outing.
