Overview
The "Welcome" couloir of Witter Peak is a great line to ski in spring, offering moderate terrain that's easily accessible via a sustained ridge.
Getting There
Take Rainbow road out of Alice as far up as you can get alongside Fall River.
Route Description
Continue to follow Fall River until it branches south towards Chinns and Sherwin lakes. Aim for Slater lake and make your way up towards the Northern face of the peak. At this point you'll see the prominent couloir. If you're looking to just ski down it your best will be to ascend via the mellow northern bench further west of the couloir. Otherwise, head up the couloir itself. From the top of it, you'll want to dogleg through a fairly narrow section to the west that will lead to a false summit, and then of course the real one.
Essential Gear
If you plan to ascend the couloir, ice axe and crampons are a must. Otherwise skis should do just fine for descending it.
