West Side Routes Annotated

West Side of Hood showing two routes: Reid Headwall is in green (with the numbers) and Leuthold Couloir is in orange. The magenta line is the approach over the top of the Reid Glacier from Illumination Rock that is the same for both routes. Click on the corresponding numbers to see photos taken from those locations on the route. These are to the best of my recollection whenI did the route 2 years ago. Please let me know if there are any discrepencies but I think they are accurate. Also, please note I have not actually completed the Leuthold Route so the exact point where you gain the final ridge may not be in the exact correct spot. Number 1 - The traverse across the top of the Reid Glacier (Please note this photo is going the wrong way as it was from a failed attempt on Leuthold but I wanted to show what it was like at that point) Number 2 - Heading up just above the bergschrund Number 3 - Taking a short break upon reaching the top of that gully Number 4 - Heading up from the previous point Number 5 Number 6 - one of the more exposed and scary parts of the climb Number 7 Number 8 Number 9
