Super easy trail as far as steep ascents go. Well worn with lots of people but worth the trip!
Trial was very well packed down. Snowshoes not necessary, but helpful on the short approach. Ice axe necessary, unless you can manage to stay on the rocks. Crampons may be useful but I didn't bother as the steepest snow I went on was about 30˚ ish. Not a cloud in the sky the entire day. Possibly the best winter weather for a 14er I've seen.
Nice trail. Your able to see the trail almost the entire way to the Summit. There were many poeple when we did it, although, we missed the rush as we started at 6am and passed all the crowds on the way down.
After Sawtooth from Evans.
Three times in three different seasons.
Nice hike with my son and Duchess.
Easy and Maintained.
2nd climb ever. Good climb somewhat boring route. Mostly class one with very very little class to near the summit.
Very nice route to the summit!
Hiked this route with a cast on my hand. Could feel the cast get super tight as blood rushed to my hand on the way down. (Bill Griffith)
Topped out and made it back down to the willows just before the thunder started to roll.
I took the easy "tourist" route for my first 14er.
Part of a 12 fourteeners in 6 days spree
8-year-old niece couldn't go any further. couple hundred feet from the summit =(
beautiful day with my brother and some of his co-workers
Starting at Guenella Pass, I headed down into the willows. This was before they built the boardwalk, so I fight through the wet willows and swampy ground. But once through the hike was easy to the summit. Done this route two other times after they built the boardwalk.
Really easy except for the winds in your face. Some good snow with high winds.
I arrived the afternoon before my hike up Bierstadt so I decided to sit at Guanella pass an watch returning hikers wander their way through the willows, I noticed a pattern of direction with hikers who seemed not to be lost providing me with a good idea of the route, It worked!
My second 14er when I was out from the east coast on a family vacation.
