For trailhead at Sulden take SS38 to Stilfs. After Stilfs at Gomago turn left into Sulden Valley. Again drive through to the end to start your ascent from Innersulden / Solda di Dentro.

Route Description

Altitude difference: 1300m from Sulden / 800m from Schaubachhütte
Duration: 4h / 2h
Difficulty: none
Trailhead: Lower cablecar station at Innersulden / Solda di Dentro

Compared with the ascent trail from Martelltal / Val Martello this is the shorter but nevertheless the less recommended (at least from me) route. Due to the cablecar to Schaubachhütte / Rif. Citta di Milano the trails are rather crowded and part of the route leads you up the slopes below ski lifts. As a plus you have the breathtaking Ortler view before your eyes during the whole ascent.

From the cablecar station at Innersulden you can either take the cablecar or hike the way up to Schaubachhütte. The hike goes along the maintenance road for the cablecar (at least most of the way) so that its beauty is marred by the cars going up and down over your head. Nevertheless Ortler towering directy above you is quite an experience.

From Schaubachhütte turn east (left) and head up the slope towards Madritschjoch / Passo Madriccio at 3122m. The first half has you going below a ski lift but from there on the valley reveals its full beauty. Cevedale comes into sight and at Passo Madriccio you have the perfect view of the Trinity Gran Zebru - Monte Zebru - Ortler/Ortles. Turn left on the southern ridge of Hintere Schöntaufspitze and scramble up a trail of medium exposure and difficulty (I at most)
