Western Diamondback

Western Diamondback

The Western Diamondback rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox) injects a hemorrhagic toxin into it's bite victims causing tissue degeneration. I spotted this one while hiking around the buttes west of Billings Montana. It tried to strike several times but did not reach far enough. Photographed September 25, 2010.
