Western Rattlesnake

A two foot long Western Rattlesnake (Crotalus Viridis) in a bad mood. Coyote Ridge Open Space Area in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains near Loveland, Colorado. If you want to really see his black, forked tongue click on image for a full sized version.

Thanks ... glad you like it. Since he was only about 2 feet long and can only strike about two thirds of his length, I took the picture from about 4 feet away.

Really good point !!!

The snakes were probably there first.
I see them all the time here in central
Arizona. We have a good relationship:
I don't bother them, and they don't
bother me! The one's I see are the
"coon-tails" or Diamondback variety.
There's even a ball club in Phoenix
named after them. I think they might be
EXPANDING their range, because I've seen
them as far north as northern Utah!
