Not So Wet
Started off around 2:30am from Lake City. The 4WD road to Matterhorn Creek was a bit gnar (first time really off-roading) but we made it to the top. Hiking through the woods was quick and we got on up to the southeast Wetterhorn ridge. Route finding wasn’t too difficult, and the Class 3 sections were super fun. A little bit of exposure. We had the summit all to ourselves. Took less than 3 hours to get to the top, and then beautiful views of the entire San Juan Mountains. Little sketch coming down but we made quick progress for less than 6 hours round trip. Awesome day!
Beautiful morning on Wetterhorn. Started from the upper TH around 3:45 am. Clear skies even though 90% chance rain predicted after noon. The scramble was fantastic and was not as exposed as I thought it was going to be. Many a marmot and pika. Columbines in full bloom. Summited at 6:30. Started down before 7. Got back to the truck around 9:20. First group to the top of the mountain. Skies remained clear throughout our hike. Start early to avoid t-storms in monsoon season. The road to the upper TH was doable in any high clearance 4X4 vehicle. We went up in a F-150. We parked just below the TH.

Wetterhorn Peak
My second 14er and favorite peak thus far! A challenging climb that was always fun with amazing views
Third time up, standard route. Climbed with Jamie, Katie, Kyle and Alexis. Lin from Iowa caught up to our group at one of our breaks and joined us the rest of the way. Snow free except for a stretch below the ridge from about 12,800 to the 13,117 shoulder. All scrambling dry.

This one didn't live up to expectations
I had always imagined not having the nerve to do the final pitch. Well, that was false. I could do that all day long, not even one jitter once I hit the ramp and saw what lied ahead. Despite the bad weather at day break, this turned out to be a very enjoyable climb.

Wetterhorn
Kessler and I climbed Wetterhorn Peak today. It was a very scenic and enjoyable climb. The climb is basically a nice trail followed by a really nice scramble and there is no scree or boulderhopping!
We saw lots of marmots, pikas, and a baby pine marten.

Independence Day
Backpacked about 1.5 miles up, found a great spot, and got set just before the storms hit. Started out at 5am and was up and back down to truck before noon storms. Wetterhorn is now one of my favorites. Great trail, amazing views, really fun climbing up on the ridge proper. Just all-around grand adventure on that mountain. Go do it.

SE Ridge
Beautiful area of Colorado. The approach is relatively short and the scrambling is fun on solid rock. Started from the easy 4WD trail head. Climbed Matterhorn afterward.

One of the best sustained scrambles in CO. Little actual exposure but still some good adrenaline pumping moves. Thanks whoever left an American flag up there.

Great finish to summit!
Rocked it out with two others who also did the traverse from Matterhorn (because they crazy). Great final stretch to the summit and I would love to do this one in winter next time!

Wetterhorn
Excellent climb in one of the most beautiful ranges in Colorado.
Solo hike/climb. Really fun mountain. The pitch from the Prow to the summit is an exciting, airy but short-lived class 3 scramble. Like nearby Uncompaghre, the views are unbeatable.

Wetterhorn NE Ridge
Went up prepared for anything, including snowfield, ice, as it was my first climb in the San Juans. Well, the snow was in great condition, but managed to stay on rock for the climb itself. Incredible creek crossing! One of the more idyllic peaks. Easy approach and no loose rock makes this a classic climb. Got a puncture on the way out to Lake City as well.
