Great hike from the beautiful meadows- there was no one else in the park! A little bit of snow at the top and the Bristlecone Forest was amazing!

Nice hike. Just as I was heading down, some thunder heads started moving in so I stepped up the pace. As I was driving back down to the valley, it got pretty rough up there. I then drove to Moab with these dark clouds behind me most of the way. 1:35 to the top.

Route Climbed: Via Jeff Davis and up the East face of Wheeler Date Climbed: August 13, 2005  Sucess!

What a fun route. Much better than the trail, if you like to climb.

Other summit date: August 7, 2004 via trail.

Always lots of deer on the trail and wind across the ridge line.

The trail is easy up this big mountain. The day started out nice with a clear blue sky. Then the clouds started to build up. When I got to the top I hurried and took pictures. Then all of the sudden the hair on my head stood straight up and my camera shocked me. It was quite an electrifying experience. Everyone on the summit started running back down the trail. Lightning was all around us and it started hailing as we descended down the plateau. It turned out to be a very interesting day.

Easy climb with beautiful scenery and rugged

ridges and cliffs all around that makes it look

tougher than it is.

Route Climbed: From Baker lake Date Climbed: June 1990  Sucess!

My group combined this peak with Baker and Pyrimid Peak. We camped at Baker Lake. In the night a boulder came off the Wheeler Massiff and tumbled for what seemed like 10-12 seconds befor hitting the water on the other side of the lake. We thought that was the end of it, but the crashes turned into "SPLOOSHES AND SPLASHES," as it continued to move through the water toward our tent. Just at the point that I was jumping out of the sleeping bag and getting ready to run for my life, the boulder finally stopped. That was fifteen years ago and I still remember that incident with vivid recall.

Beautiful day on a beautiful mountain. A little breezy on the saddle and snow on the trail from the saddle to the summit. It wasn't icy, so it was a great hike.

Gorgeous day, with clouds forming in mid-afternoon. Enjoyable peak! It was my 6th 5000-foot+ prominence peak in 6 days, on my way to 8 in 8 days.

Awesome looking peak offers awesome views from the top. Who would have thought this would be Nevada? Non-technical climb, easy up and back. Saw a crew of deer just hanging out above the saddle. Signed the mailbox registry at top. Wish my dogs could have come.

Nice hike on a clear day. Too bad the aspen leaves had dropped already. I stayed at the campground just past the trail head and had plenty of mule deer walk through the night before.

This is a good conditioning hike, but other than that it is child's play for the serious climber.

This is not really a climb, just a "higher-altitude" hike. The bristlecone pines are much more interesting and immpresive.

I climbed the peak on memorial day using the standard route from the campground. The snow was really soft and I wish I would have brought my snowhoes. Going up early in the morning it was windy and I did a bit of postholing to get to the ridge. The view from the summit was awesome. The whole Snake Range was covered in snow and I had the top to myself. Coming down I met the only other climber I saw that day (Scott from Las Vegas). He made the summit about hour after me. The trip down was like swimming in spots it was so soft (I was warned). It was well worth the extra effort, the scenery is very nice this time of year. After I got back to the campground I drove to Bryce followed by the Grand Canyon and Zion. I would like to try Moriah Peak 12,065 by Hendry Creek approach next time.

Hiked Wheeler via the standard trail in Aug 2002.

In Sept 2003, I climbed nearby Jeff Davis Peak (12771 ft) then crossed the saddle to Wheeler.

On June 12, 2004, I summited Wheeler via the trail, dropped down to the south saddle and crossed over to Baker Peak (12305 ft) then returned and re-summited Wheeler. Tough day but a great time!
