Kennecott?It's still a nice picture. I suspect that only locals would know what they are looking at with the snow cover on it.

Re: Kennecott?Yes that is one of the Kennecott Mines in the background. I always thought that Kennecott was just one big open pit mine. It wasn't till I climbed around in the Oquirrhs that I discovered that Kennecott is actually several open pit mines that go deep into the range. I think I prefer the mountain over the mine.....too bad many more Oquirrh Mountains are gonna face the same fate one day. Catch them while you can. Happy Trails out there ZeeJay

Cry me a riverFrom what I've seen looking at older topographical maps, Kennecott hasn't removed any mountains but they may have built one with the tailings. If so, it will have to be climbed as well.

Re: Cry me a riverYou are correct, you are one of few who see a value in some uninspiring sage brush covered hills that once covered that area. I prefer the uses from the resource extraction over the last 104 years. As for calling me a "young climber", I've been climbing since before you were born. Since I've climbed a good 850 mountains worldwide, I can see the necessity to "sacrifice" a few mountain ranges so we don't all live in the dark ages.

Re: Cry me a riverIt does not matter how many mountians you climb.....you still have a young climber soul. When you just look at the summit and not the mountain, you detatch yourself from nature that surrounds you. I see you would choose to tear up paradise to put up a parking lot.....for the sake of the Oquirrh Range (and any other range for that matter) I hope that there are not any other climbers that share your views.
