Route Climbed: Barcroft gate trailhead

It felt so wrong summiting this on the day the Barcroft gate was open...but I'm still counting this one. Super easy hike with some nice views of the Palisades.

Quick and Fast Summit  Sucess!

Lead a hike up with outdoorsclub.org. Made it to the summit in 2 hrs and 40 minutes. First 14'er. Hung out at the top for a long time, cold and beautiful. Great views, easy 14'er but well worth it.

Hazy Day  Sucess!

Good weather, though the nice views were obscured by a lot of haze.

Scary drive to Trailhead!  Sucess!

My little Prius still looks ultra-tough covered with evidence of my backroads excursion to the trailhead. My first 14er! :)

perfect weather,great climb  Sucess!

Stayed Friday night and Grandview and Saturday night at the trailhead. Got started at 5:30am after a miserable and cold night in the car. Warmed up a bit after sunrise, and turned into a beautiful day. Took it nice and slow with a couple of stops for breakfast/hydration, summited around 10am, took in the breathtaking view for a while, and made a quick run back to the car. All around a great experience!

Nice View  Sucess!

Climbed the day after Langley. Worked well for acclimating. The views from the top (and along the way) made the trip well worth it.

Long Road  Sucess!

My eight year old son made the summit with our group. It was crowded at the summit today.

What a great peak! Easy too, the driving is the longest part.

nice drive to trailhead. bristlecone pines are awesome and as old as the pyramids! (in egypt) can see many of the other fourteeners on a clear day from summit. sort of a boring hike though

The Sparks were Flying!  Sucess!

With Thunderheads popping up and down the valley we weren't sure we'd have an opportunity to summit during our mid-week hike. We watched a rain storm pass the peak in the early AM and then had clear skys so we continued to the peak. With sun on the peak we noticed the clouds getting darker on the saddle we were going to have to cross to get back. Spent a worrying last 20min. in a hail and lighnting storm. Luckily, the lightning was more than a few miles away. Still closer than I would have liked. Had a nice chat with Roger and Al at the Barcroft Station while we waited out the lightning! Nice bunch of folks! The lightning stopped us on Mt. Langley two days later! :-(

Followed the yellow brick road...  Sucess!

Aside from the miserable drive, a flat tire, and sharing the mountain with more than 20 Marines in training, the climb the next morning was quick and somewhat enjoyable. The hike back seems to take forever. Made it up in 3:30, with half of the Marines passing us on the way up. A good conditioning hike, but with that drive, I doubt I'll ever return.

Route Climbed: Barcroft gate trailhead  Sucess!

An early start means plenty of Marmot sightings on the way up. Hiked this one with my brother. Still a little snow near the summit. The Sierra still has plenty of north facing snow but the view was hazy. Might have been smoke blown up from the San Bernardino fires.

Trek from Bishop  Sucess!

My girlfriend and I left Bishop on June 9th and walked through the White Mountains, reaching the summit six days later. We had planned to continue North to Boundary Peak and Nevada, but 50 mph winds and springs covered by snowfields turned us around. Go trek through the White Mountains - Sagehen Flat, Blanco Mountain, Cottonwood Basin and Tres Plumas Flat are all beautiful, unspoiled places!

Nice afternoon stroll  Sucess!

Robin and I got our usual Alpine Start™, leaving Bishop at 10 after a leisurely breakfast. There were a ton of cars in the parking area, and we saw most of those people coming down on our way up (I suspect that the majority really did get an alpine start). We summitted uneventfully, passed a few moments up there, then headed back to the car and home to Bishop for pizza and beer.

The researchers' road  Sucess!

The last bit of road before the trailhead/gate was pretty fun in my Chevy Metro. I got a late start because I underestimated the driving time from Horton Creek campground, but it isn't a long hike, so it turned out fine. On the way down, a big pick-up truck full of college boys (researchers) was heading/bouncing up the "trail."
