Solo climbed from the Barcroft gate on the dirt road. Very sunny comfortable morning climb with great views north to Mt. Dana and south along the High Sierra. Took about 6 hours round trip.
Fun trip, but harder than I was expecting. Nice weather:)
A family affair. We took advantage of the open gates on the last day of a two week vacation. My second time up, my wifes first time (her second 14'er). My daughter (age 5) hiked to the summit on her own for her first 14'er, and my son (age 2) got a ride all the way on my back for his first ever peak.
Great late afternoon hike.
Quick trip to the top after sleeping at 8600ft. Lots of mountain bikers out.
Awesome trip!!! Great Views from the TOp
Nice hike on the 4th of July. A bit warm coming down. Also checked out the Bristlecone Pine Forest.
We used this peak as a conditioner for our Whitney climb. Camped at the gate the night before which helped. Car to car in just under 7-hours. HOT! Went through 3.5-liters of water.
No, I did not run, but I could have! Summitted in 2006.
My 9yo son and I hiked from Barcroft Gate. I was very proud of him. By far, this was his longest and highest hike yet. He was so tired when we summitted. But after a nap and some food, he was back to his old playful self as we headed back down the trail. We did his science project for the upcoming year along the way (testing the boiling temperature of water at various elevations). Great, great day and great weekend camping and hiking with him.
Tried to spend a night up there but altitude sickness made us pack our tent before it got dark. Nice walk down under the moonlight...
Super easy stroll up a 4WD road, great acclimization peak.
Overnight at the Gate. Cold night and an early start. We arrived on the summit at 11:05AM and a helicopter came and picked up one of the researchers at the summit lab. Pretty cool!
I do not remember the exact date. We stayed at the White Mountain Research Station where my (now) wife was doing some research.
CLIMBED FROM PATRIARK GROVE THINKING IT WAS THE TRAILHEAD. MADE FOR SOME INTERESTING CROSS COUNTRY TREKING
Useful to sleep near the top to pre-acclimatize for a higher mountain.
Easy walk up a dirt road
Got to the top twice so far. Easy hike. great mountain to acclimate just before going to higher peaks.
Ride mountain bike up to the summit, probably the only bikable California 14er.
It is another world up there. Recommend driving down Silver Canyon if you have high clearance and low gear.
