Hiked over the dunes with my kids. The white sand may have looked like snow, but the June sun kept everything nice and warm. Heavy rains in the preceding days had created big shallow ponds that were heated bathwater-warm by the sun. We enjoyed an afternoon of hiking around and wading until approaching thunderstorms drove us out.
I scampered all over the place. Thermometer said it was 66 degrees but on the sand it felt much warmer.
Fun, strange place. Take the time and do the hike.
An unique place which offers an unique experience both physical and emotional.
May 1993 and February 2016. Hiked Alkali Flat in 2016.
The fact that I woke up in NYC and was enjoying this beautiful place in the afternoon is amazing. really unique cool place. Loved the white lizards
Had a lot of fun exploring the dunes - my year-old son loved crawling on the fine sand :)
Had a great time with the family sledding down the dunes and just being outdoors with those I care about most!
Took the family here a few years back. It was a lot of fun, and we enjoyed sliding and jumping down the dunes!
Stopped here and used saucers and wax paper to go 'sledding' in the sand with the kids.
