White-tailed ptarmigan
A white-tailed ptarmigan on the east side of Flattop Mountain, somewhere between 11,500 and 12,000 feet. The groundbird changes color with the seasons. This one is preparing to molt to its summer shade, which is a mottled brown and black color almost indistinguishable from the surrounding talus.
