Route Climbed: Not quite sure as of date Date Climbed: March2003
Awsome hike w/climbing gear on my back... started on a trail and ended up midway of the slide itself..after navigating 2 smaller hills, I followed the slide up which seemed fairly vertical and had some awsome views. Climed over the stone wall and found myself at the concessions and then finished off at the top .Great views but couldnt figure where I lost the trail.
Route Climbed: Meteorological station trail Date Climbed: October 2003
A long hike which eventually gets you to the road just below the summit. The east ridge was really icy so we opted to walk up the road to the handrail line on the west ridge. Very nice snowy exposure took us to the top. Skiers were skiing the upper mile of the auto road. Looked like fun! We went up esther on the way down. A nice little side trip and a great day in the mountains.
Route Climbed: Connery Pond/Lake Placid Date Climbed: August 2003
My first Adirondack and my first 3000+ vertical...I basically pulled into Wilmington and asked Tourist Info, "How do I climb THAT?" After hours of slogging away in the wilderness, I was such an ignoramus that I had no idea I would be greeted at the top by driving tourists sitting in folding chairs chewing on jerky. They truly thought I had nine heads when I appeared trudging to the summit. Got offered a ride down. Fear not: I declined. A very proud day for me on the mountain that started my obsession.
Route Climbed: A trail Date Climbed: Sometime in the 90's
I did this one during buggy season one year with the Boy Scouts. We were spread out along the trail but I could tell where everyone was by the clouds of black flies hovering above certain sections of trail.
Route Climbed: Not the road Date Climbed: August 2002
Not sure what route I climbed, I was following a more experienced guy whose whiteface summit was his last for 46! There were women in bikinis on top!! (I think they took the elevator...)
Route Climbed: normal Date Climbed: september 2004
Very nice hike, it demands a constant effort and a lot of water, but the view on the summit is superb on a clear day... well if you don't look at the tons of people coming by car.
Route Climbed: Wilmington Trail from the reservoir Date Climbed: July 10, 2004
Warm day, consumed a lot of water. The hike in from the reservoir is moderate, recommend grabbing Esther on the way. One of my favorite parts was the wall along the highway, and the final tenths of a mile to the summit are suspenseful. The top was swarmed, 50 people or so, high tourist area, most drove of course. Still the views on Lake Placid and the High Peaks in the distance are well worth it. I descended the longer way to Connery Pond, for a different experience.
Route Climbed: Old Marble Mtn Ski Area Approach/Wilmington Trail Date Climbed: Sep 22, 2000
I am proud to say that I have never reached Whiteface's summit by car or chairlift. I have only hoofed it to the top to the 'amazement' of the tourists at the top. This hike had many great views and was a worthwhile hike. I definitely recommend the Marble Mtn approach as it shortens the approach to the mountains by almost one mile.
