Whitney in Winter 16 hrs C2C

On Saturday January 14, 2012, I did a rare winter ascent of Whitney by the NE couloir. One day, car to car, 16 hour return -- absolutely unheard of in winter. Snow was very light and so we could move fast on the ten-mile approach. Winter ascents are very rare, and usually done over 4 days, 2 approach days, one climbing day from a high base camp at Iceberg lake, and one descent day. Reid Malinbaum and Steve Prohaska had done the route before in summer, but I had never been on Whitney -- not even the 22 mile hiking trail. So -- off we went. Ultralight packs, minimal gear, and no options for mistakes. (Trip report and videos by Professor Grant Horner)

I post videos of all my Sierra climbs on my YouTube page, 'High Sierra Climbing'. You can see the videos of the Whitney in Winter climb here:

Welcome to SP

Just to let you know, I don't think this approach to your videos is going to get much recognition here. People want to see pics and read about your trips rather than use the site to point people to your youtube vids. It would be good to check out some full trip reports to see how it's done.
Cheers -ND
