Too quick  Sucess!

Same amount of time driving up there as hiking time from y.a.b. well worth the drive though.

Clusterf*ck at Twin Lakes  Sucess!

This area is way to easy to access, resulting in a constant circus. I hope the road washes out soon.

Smoke mania  Sucess!

I lead a group up to the top in less than ideal conditions. Despite only 1500 feet of gain, the smoke was having an affect on all of us. Views were hazy at best. Will come back to see how much I missed!!

Smokey....  Sucess!

Twin Lakes was crazy. I can't believe how many people were up there, and even crazier were some of the cars that made it up the road! The smoke from the fires was really bad, so it was really hard to see much of anything, but the occasional view came through the haze. I'll gladly go back on a weekday!

We saw some clouds  Sucess!

We knew the weather was going to be dismal, but like true Washingtonians we decided to go for anyways. Parked just past the Aster Butte Trailhead right before the washouts (A 4*4 jeep could easily make it past the washout). Road was partially buried in snow starting about a mile from where we parked, gradually transitioning into complete coverage at about 5000'. Lakes were still frozen over. From the lakes our route was pretty direct; there were a few steep parts (maybe 50 degree, with terrible run-out). Ice axes are definitely a must. For the last 500' of the climb we decided to scramble straight up the rocks rather than continuing in the snow; it's doable, but I wouldn't recommend it when it's wet outside. Reached the lookout at around the 2:00. The lookout was in a cloud the entire night, but we still had a good time busying ourselves with other things. Hiked/glissaded down Sunday morning. Saw one couple hiking above the lake, but they never reached the lookout, so we were alone for pretty much the entire trip. Will be back!

Actual summit  Sucess!

Was able to drive past the Y.A.B. TH a half mile early in the AM and didn't bring skis - thought snow was going to be too shallow. Best day of snow this season : / Post holed around to the left side of Winchester from Twin Lakes, signed log at the cabin, took giant bushwhacking steps down. Fun day

Up I Go

12/12-14/14 Had a cold and interesting time climbing with peak with my wife. I thought it would be a walk in the park but it ended up being quite the climb. Nobody had been up there for nearly a month (per guest book) One night in the tent 100 feet below the summit and one in the lookout (ice box)

Winchester Direct Approach  Sucess!

This was an enjoyable route. The snow bridge was still very much intact. In fact, the lakes were still snowed/iced over. Several sections were steep before the gully but the gully itself was more straightforward than I expected. The slopes were icy in the early morning and I was not comfortable wearing microspikes (i.e. crampons would have been MUCH more secure/safe). The views from the summit are top-notch. Highly recommended.

Winter trek

Could only get 2 mi up the 4 mi road to TH, toured in to the saddle. Great conditions - didn't have the gusto to bag the peak this go around, but will be back to do so in summer definitely

Winchester  Sucess!

Camp out for a weekend of car camping and easy hiking to say goodbye to summer. Summer decided to say goodbye first and so we wound up mired in a cloud all day Saturday. Some views from Winchester but not the full enchilada so we'll have to come back again. This is still one of my favorite hikes so that's OK by me.

29th Bday  Sucess!

with no real birthday party I decided to take some time to myself so I did this and Laribee to the summit all in one day solo and then back to the twin lakes to make camp.

Many times  Sucess!

Climbed Winchester many times. This is the one to take the visiting friends/family up. Spend the night in the hut in the winter. A lifetime of ski terrain from a summit hut. Can't be beat!

Moonlight Views!!!  Sucess!

First Climb with Gimpilator. Headed up the trail around 8pm, kicked steps into some steep snow. We were rushing to catch the sunset, which we enjoyed just below the summit. The crux was a large moat with steep rock above. Once past that it was a quick ascent to the lookout. At the lookout we caught some great fading colors on the horizon and enjoyed a fullmoon night going down. Almost didn't need headlamps, as the fullmoon towering over Shuksan illuminated the night.

11,780 Feet of Vertial Gain in Under 48 Hours  Sucess!

This was the 3rd peak I climbed this weekend out of 4 total and also the first climb with beaudaddy85. We got into some gnarly steep snow traverses and had to weasel our way through a moat. We just barely missed the sunset from the summit and had to come down in the dark. I think this might be the start of a great climbing partnership.

Larrabee Reconnoiter Mission  Sucess!

I went up Winchester by the trail route to check out the route on Larrabee, which I climbed the following day. I forgot how great the view if from the lookout, it was evenening when I went up so the light was soft and wonderful.

North Ridge  Sucess!

Travis talked me in to climbing the north ridge from Low Pass and although I'm glad he did, I was relatively terrified at times. Loose and steep with some bushwhacking but very worth it as an unusual approach to a popular peak.
