2x Loops up and back
Beautiful day to be out. I was happy I was able to get good views of the high Continental Divide peaks with the bit of rain, hail, and snow that fell on me. Started conservatively and ramped it up a bit toward the end. Felt sluggish at the start and got stronger as the day went on...until that last climb with a mile to go ;)
Route: Mtn Lion West-City Lights Ridge-Mountain Lion-Windy Peak-Burro Loop west to east-Windy Peak again- Mountain Lion East. The Peak and the East part of Mountain Lion along the creek with a dozen bridges were the best parts. Clear, 47°F, Feels like 44°F, Humidity 62%, Wind 5mph from NE

North and west ridge.
Some problems with route finding, we had to dodge some huge boulders to get on top pf plateau. From there everything was easier, some really nice rock formations, typical for LCW. Great hike.

North Ridge
Wow. I really, really loved this peak. We had amazing views thanks to exceptionally crisp, clean air this day. We could see from Greenhorn Mountain in the south all the way to Longs & Meeker in the north...and everything in between. I loved the summit pleateau area and the scrambling to reach the top of the peak. Just an amazing little mountain!

CO Trail/north ridge bushwack
I had heard that Windy is a brutal snowshoe, so I decided to hit it in the fall when the aspens were still colorful. The bushwack from the CO Trail is fairly mellow, although it gets pretty steep near the top. We ended up veering to the east a bit too much, which ended up giving us some solid scrambling opportunities. A great place to explore!

West ridge
This was a fine peak with great views, but I would recommend doing it later in the year to avoid the snow.

This mountain is a very worthwhile challenge. Especialy with deep snow. I feel that this large mountain would worth getting to know better (i.e. by it west ridge route). It is fun but it worked me over. Dogs Sopris and Raymond along on this lonely sojourn. Jon Bradford
I have climbed Windy Peak on 3 different occasions. Twice in the winter via the north ridge and once in July viw the west ridge. Windy Peak has the honor of having the most imaculate summit register I have ever seen. Complete with a large medal lock box and a hardcover binded with ribbon. It looked like a diary or something. Windy Peak is very isolated from the rest of the LCW. Only Buffalo Mountain and the Castle give this mountain some company. You do get the feeling that your on a different planet when walking across the lonely summit plateau. About 20-25 people a year summit this peak.
