Yungay memorial

Near Yungay, a big Jesus statue is looking at the twin peaks of Huascarán. It's a memorial for the disaster in 1970, when an enormous avalanche, triggered by an earthquake, came crashing down from Huascarán Norte, covering almost the whole town of Yungay and killing 20.000 people.
