Checkerboard mesa

is tops! What? I thought you of
all people would have a snow-
covered Checkerboard Mesa picture.
Can a person climb on Checkerboard?
Is it a waiting game for permits?

Re: Checkerboard mesa

You can either climb Checkerboard Mesa or just hike to near the top. I have so MANY photos of Zion... tons of snow ones... but it takes time. I have only posted here now a short time. ;)

Here is the info for the hike.

Checkerboard Mesa Hike

Permits are not needed :)

The climb

is pretty scary. Crux resembled an unprotected vertical sand dune: About 5.7. I fell when some of the sand slipped. Slid about 30 feet before stopping, rope never caught me. It was more like a self arrest.

Great area. Looking forward to those photos.

Hi Brutus..... I did the hike but not the climb. My hiking partner Bo however has climbed it.

bobeck,

I don't know if he has photos, but he might. Do you?

Re: The climb

No, no photos. We climbed the entire face from the road... the 5.7 was about half way up.
