Started from Garmisch-Partenkirchen, passed through Partnachklamm and Reinthal, spent the night in Knorrhuette and climbed the summit next morning.
That was great!

Through the Höllental
There was no snow on the glacier. That was just what I had hoped for, because now I could easily avoid the crevasses. On my way to the glacier, I saw some people returning, looking unhappy - I believe they had wanted to cross the glacier without crampons, but that was virtually impossible. There even were big signs at the Höllentalanger Hütte saying that you would need them.
The climb was beautiful, but the summit experience is something else. I didn't stay long, and continued to the Knorr Hütte.

Walked all the way from the car parking at Kreuzeckbahn lift station (at 750 m above see level) via Höllental-klamm and the glacier. Reached the summit in 8 hours 45 minutes. Liked every single minute of the trip.

Hoellental route
Long trip - 8 h from Grainau. But an interesting journey through different terrain: path in the forest, magnificent canyon, moraines, a small glacier and via ferrata.

It was the most beautiful mountain route I've ever done (and I've done quite a few). The regular huts on the way up mean you don't need to carry a lot of food (although water and sun cream are essential!), and once over the top of the Ehrwalder Alm and round the back of the Zugspitze, the scenery was absolutley breathtaking. As a route, this isn't very hard, and even the last scramble can be avoided by taking the cable car (which I didn't do). Full route available at http://www.nsales.co.uk/hiking/hiking.htm

Höllental
Started at 7am at Hammersbach. raced up to the glacier in order to save some time since us was told that the upper via ferrata is full of snow and ice. We overtook several people who started way before us. The sun did a great job on the ice and we didn' t have to wait at any time :) Phantastic views from the route and on the top. Great trip but the crowd on the summit is quite a contrast...

Started at Hammersbach in the morning after sleeping in the car and did it as a one-day tour.
Tooooo many people on this day and a crowded route made me wait several times.

Took the ski lift, but I was the only from our group to ski down it without wiping out!
Yeh, yeh, not really a traditional summit, but i did get up there and enjoyed some of the best skiing of my life.... so far...

Wonderful approach through the Höllental, stayed in the hut, then climbed with some new-found friends the next day to the summit (my first Klettersteig too!). Descended to an Austrian hut via another Klettersteig, and then out to the Eibsee the next day. Wonderful tour!!
