Description

Two Backpacking Trips in One Outing:
- Buckskin Gulch 2 days in Vermillion Cliffs Wilderness Area
followed by
- Grand Canyon 4-day triple-rim.

This is a private trip with permits for 4 people; looking to add one person to round out a group of three 50+ year-old guys. Non-smoker only. Share actual trip/permit expenses; estimate $400 per.

Leave / return SF Bay Area 21-30 Sept 2013.

Backpack 2 days Buckskin Gulch from Wirepass TH to Whitehouse TH.

Primitive camp overnight in Buckskin 1/2 mile west of confluence with Paria River.
Advanced backpacking & canyoneering skills. Rope climb, wade cold pools, mud, heat.
Longest slot canyon on the planet!

Backpack 4 days Grand Canyon from/to North Rim TH.
Day 0: Car camp North Rim campground; restaurant & bar.
Day 1: Backpack from North Rim via North Kaibab trail to Bright Angel campground by Colorado River. Evening meal included @ Phantom Ranch Cafe. Drinks in the bar.
Day 2: Breakfast & lunch included @ Phantom Ranch Cafe. Backpack from Bright Angel campground via Bright Angel trail to South Rim Mather campground. Evening meal & drinks on the rim.
Day 3: Backpack from South Rim via South Kaibab trail to Bright Angel campground by Colorado River. Evening meal included @ Phantom Ranch Cafe. Drinks in the bar.
Day 4: Backpack from Bright Angel campground via North Kaibab trail to North Rim campground. Car camp North Rim campground; restaurant & bar.

Desert & alpine backpacking experience helpful.
You must be in excellent physical condition and qualify well in advance of departure on SF Bay Area training hikes with other members of the group.
