Description

I would like to climb Kings peak over my spring break (March 16-26). I got a new mountaineering tent for X-Mas and want to use it more. Used it on Wheeler and Ibapah recently. I would be on snowshoes and likely would come in via Henry's Fork. Planning on at least 3 days. If possible would like to do either the King's Emmond Ridge, or add on Gilbert.

Dmitry PrussThe summer trail

had snowshoe track to the Elkhorn on the 24th, despite deep snow. We are going to put an alternate ski track down in the creekbed this coming weekend (Mar 3rd), please do not ruin it with your snowshoes and good luck :)
The WMC Kings tour is scheduled for the 31st.

EDITED 3/4/07: the horse trail track was good about 2/3rd ways to Elkhorn, but higher up it looks like the folks who made it lost the trail and wandered around in loops before making to Elkhorn. Our creekbed route is probably no good for shoers or people towing sleds at all, 'cuz there is a lot of holes with open water and snowbridges keep collapsing. Two of our crew fell into the creek with crumbling snowbridges, but with long skis it's kind of so-so. Snowshoe distributes a person's mass over a more limited area, could have been a real problem.
